Nazita Adili-Khams, M.D.

Dr. Nazita Adili-Khams is certified in Family Medicine. Dr. Adili-Khams was born in Iran. When she was 18 years old, she and her family left Iran due to war and political pressures. She and her family spent one year in Turkey and then immigrated to Canada where they lived for six years. She graduated from the University of Ottawa with a major in biology. She entered medical school in Hungary and then returned to Canada and took the Canadian and United States medical board exams. She was accepted into the Regions Family Medicine Program. She completed the three-year program after assisting with more than 200 births.
Dr. Adili-Khams appreciates the U.S. healthcare system for its patient-centered focus with great access to the latest treatments and technology. Why did she come choose to come to Prairie Family Practice? “I saw the advertisement and I like small towns,” commented Dr. Adili-Khams. She describes herself as friendly and a team player and would like people to think of her as their friend. When not working she likes to work out and keep current with medicine. |

Mark Ahlquist, M.D.

Dr. Mark Ahlquist grew up in Minneapolis graduating from Robbinsdale High School in 1974 and Wheaton College, IL with a B.S. in Chemistry in 1978. he worked as a construction laborer for a year, then attended the Medical College of Virginia graduating with an M.S. degree in biochemistry. He attended the University of Minnesota Medical School from 1981-1985 and served his residency at East Carolina University, Greenville, NC in the Family Practice Department. In 1988 he was certified into the American Board & Family Practice Department and remains Board certified in Family Practice. He has been a member of the American Academy of Family Practice since 1988. He and his wife Carol, have four children. His special interests are “natural obstetrics”, counseling (individual and marital) and skin/nail problems.

Paul Buhr, M.D.

Dr. Paul Buhr grew up in rural Brooten, MN and graduated from Concordia College, Moorhead MN. He taught math and science for three years in St. Paul with baseball player Dave Winfield as one of his students. He graduated from the University of Minnesota medical School and completed an internship at Lutheran General Hospital, Chicago. He and his wife Carole, spent six years working at mission hospitals in Madagascar. He is a 30-year veteran of Prairie Family Practice and enjoys patients of all ages. Dr. Buhr still gets a special thrill from the miracle of birth. Paul enjoys fishing, hunting and community activities. He volunteers with the Global Health Ministries, an agency that assists medical work in developing countries.

M. Chelehmalzadeh, M.D.

Dr. Mohammad Chelehmalzadeh was born in Iran and moved with family to US when he was only 2 years old, so that his dad could get his PhD in Physics. Eventually at the age of 7 the family returned to Iran. Later his dad got a teaching sabbatical in Sydney Australia and took this opportunity to give his kids a better education and safety out of the war zone in Iran.
Dr. Chelehmalzadeh has traveled across the globe from Turkey, France, Italy, Australia, US, Japan with family, and eventually immigrated to Toronto, Canada where he has lived since 1987. He finished his Honors Bachelor of Science at University of Toronto, with Majors in Biology, Biochemistry and Chemistry (Specialist), then started a Masters in Cellular and Molecular pathology but switched midway to study medicine in Belize. He returned to Canada where he passed Canadian and US Medical Boards and decided to start his residency in Family Practice at Montgomery Family Practice, in Pennsylvania. Dr. Chelehmalzadeh comes to us with his lovely wife, Maryam. They have just celebrated their 10th year anniversary.
"I have never lived in a small town but as part of my Visa requirements I needed to provide service in a rural community. I searched all over US for the right community and I think that my wife and I have found the nicest people in a small town called Olivia. I really liked the RC Hospital staff on our first meeting so my decision was very easy".
"My name literally means born from a family who fixes the insides of sheep (intestines, etc.) to make strings and other products.This is what my family used to do as far as 40 years ago" People generally have a hard time pronouncing his last name. It is pronounced as written: Che (like chair) - Leh - Mal (like Mall) - Za - Deh.

J. Rob Kemp, M.D.

Dr. J. Rob Kemp was born in Iowa and when he was twelve he and his family moved to Deerwood, MN. He is certified by the Board of Family Practice. Dr. Kemp also has a special interest in Bariatric (weight loss) Medicine.
He graduated from Crosby-Ironton High School. Dr. Kemp completed his undergraduate work at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School. His residency was at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.
“My Grandfather had a heart attack when I was twelve years old and when I was fifteen I was hospitalized to have my appendix removed. These two events had a big impact on my desire to become a doctor. I decided to specialize in Family Medicine as I wanted to live and serve in a rural area and practice a broad range of medicine.”
Dr. Kemp and his family live in rural Spicer on a 16-acre hobby farm. His wife Sue is an RN and nursing instructor at Ridgewater College. They have three children Michael, Katie and Bailey.

Jeffrey Krogstad, M.D.

Dr. Jeffrey Krogstad was born and raised in Kittson County in northwestern Minnesota. He graduated from Kennedy High School and completed undergraduate studies in biology at the College of Biological Sciences at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. He remained at the University of Minnesota to obtain his M.D. from the University of Minnesota Medical School. His training in family medicine was from 1979 to 1982 at the University of North Dakota Family Practice Residency in Grand Forks. He has been board-certified in Family Practice since 1982 with his most recent recertification in 2009.
Dr. Krogstad practiced in Fergus Falls, Minnesota from 1982 until 1989 at which time he and his family moved to Willmar where he practiced until 2008. He was employed at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center for eight months prior to accepting a position at RC Hospital & Clinics.
Jeff and his wife Susan have three children and one grandchild. Susan is a school nurse with the Willmar Public Schools. Hobbies include hiking, camping, fishing, backpacking, hunting, reading and family trips.

Joseph M. Mayland, D.O.

Dr. Joseph Mayland graduated from medical school from the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa. After graduating from the surgical emphasis internship program at Doctors Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, he moved to St. Louis, Missouri for his general surgical residency. Dr. Mayland was voted Chief Resident two out of the four years of his surgical training by fellow residents, interns and medical students at Des Peres Hospital. Dr. Mayland underwent extensive training in general as well as minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery. Colonoscopies and upper endoscopies are a routine part of his surgical practice. He has been practicing medicine in Minnesota since his graduation from his general surgical residency and is looking forward to building a state of the art surgical service at RC Hospital & Clinics. Dr. Mayland believes patients prefer to be treated close to home and that he can provide big city surgical care in a friendly small town atmosphere to the residents Renville County.
Dr. Mayland grew up in a small southwestern Wisconsin town. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Human biology and a minor in chemistry from the University of Minnesota Mankato. He is married with three children and one on the way.

Paul Thompson, M.D.

Dr. Paul Thompson graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1970 and went through a rotating internship at Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge, Illinois. He went into family practice in Long Prairie, MN for five years. In 1976, he returned to the University of Minnesota obtaining a master’s Degree in maternal Child Health. From there, he and wife, Lois went to Bolivia, South America, as missionaries serving basically in administrative duties until 1980, when they returned to the United States settling in Olivia. Paul was involved in an Immunization Practices Task Force for the Department of Health and he was co-medical director for the Minnesota Rural Health Cooperative. His practice includes the full gamut of family practice from obstetrics through geriatrics. He is board certified with a special interest in public health.

Lisa Babler, PA-C

Lisa Babler, is a graduate of Metropolitan State College of Denver, Colorado, where she majored in biology and graduated cum laude. She completed her graduate studies in the Physician Assistant Program at Midwestern University in Downers Grove, Illinois. She worked in Rockford, Illinois, in general orthopedic and spine surgery and in Minneapolis in orthopedic spinal surgery. Lisa also spent three years in the U.S. Air Force.
Lisa, a native of Minnesota, and her 15 month old daughter, Olivia, recently moved to Renville County. Lisa is happy to return to Minnesota where her six siblings still live. Lisa and Olivia were attracted to Renville County and Olivia because “it’s a rural community like the one I was raised in - where I enjoyed helping others and had a sense of community, a place with friendly people and a place where you know your neighbors.” In Lisa’s free time she likes to spend time with her daughter, exercise, read, talk with friends, and enjoy the out-of-doors.

Holly Squibb, PA-C

Born at Renville County Hospital, Holly spent her childhood in Bird Island. She later moved to Willmar where she graduated high school in 2003. Holly is a 2006 graduate of Bethel University in St. Paul with a B.S. in Biology. After college, she worked as a behavioral therapist with autistic children in addition to being a personal care attendant. She then went to the University of South Dakota where she graduated with a Master’s degree in Physician Assistant studies in 2009. She has a special interest in women’s health and enjoys family medicine for the opportunity to be involved in all stages of a person’s life. She is excited about being back in the area near family and friends. She has 3 sisters and 2 brothers. In her free time, she enjoys running, being with family and spending time at the lake and outdoors.

Ruby Rhines, RN, CNP

Ruby Rhines has been a family nurse practitioner since 1997 and has been with Prairie Family Practice since 2003. She sees patients in Olivia, Hector, and Renville. Ruby earned an Associate RN degree from North Iowa Area Community College, a Bachelor of Arts in Nursing degree from Metropolitan State University in St. Paul, MN, and a Masters of Science degree from South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD. She provides a variety of family practice services from infants to adults to geriatric care. She treats acute illnesses and injuries, chronic illnesses, and conducts routine physicals. She has had special training to help people with smoking cessation. Ruby grew up in Iowa but has lived in Redwood Falls, MN, since 1989 with her husband. She has three grown children. Her hobbies include gardening, quilting, golfing, and astronomy.
